
Prof. Dr José António Lumini
Short Bio
José António Lumini is a physiotherapist with a degree from the Escola Superior de Saúde do Porto, an osteopath (BSc) from Swansea University, UK and an acupuncturist with accredited training from the Complutense University of Madrid. He has a PhD in Physical Activity, Health and Leisure from the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto with a thesis on Effects of hyperglycaemia and endurance training on rat skeletal and cardiac muscle mitochondrial function and apoptotic signaling-Special reference to the permeability transition, is currently a Coordinator Professor of Physiotherapy at the Instituto Superior de Ciências da Saúde (ISAVE), Vice-Director of the Centro Interdisciplinar em Ciências da Saúde (CICS) and Vice-President of the Instituto Internacional de Fisioterapia, after having been an Assistant Professor at the Universidade Fernando Pessoa for many years. With more than 20 years’ clinical experience, he specializes in physiotherapy and has more recently dedicated himself to integrative clinical practice, incorporating different areas of knowledge. He is a guest lecturer on the Doctorate in Physiotherapy and Physical Activity and Health, the Masters in Physical Activity and Health and Physical Activity for the Elderly, at the Faculty of Sport, University of Porto and a member of the technical committee of the doctorate in Industrial Engineering, Design and Technology for Medicine and Sport. Author of several publications, he is a member of the Center for Research in Physical Activity, Health and Leisure (CIAFEL), the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Sciences (CICS) and a collaborator of LABIOMEP at the University of Porto. He has international experience as a trainer of concepts such as Dynamic Tape™ and Smart Tools™.
